What vaccinations do I need for Uzbekistan?

Before traveling to Uzbekistan, it’s essential to consider your vaccination needs to ensure a safe and healthy trip. While there are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry, several recommended vaccines can help protect you during your stay.

Firstly, make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date. This includes the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, as well as vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP), polio, and the seasonal flu.

In addition to routine vaccines, the following are particularly recommended for Uzbekistan:

  • Hepatitis A: This vaccine is advised for all travelers, as the virus can be contracted through contaminated food or water, which is a risk in some areas of Uzbekistan.

  • Hepatitis B: Recommended, especially if you might have sexual contact with the local population, receive medical treatment, or undergo any procedures like tattoos or piercings.

  • Typhoid: Particularly important if you plan to visit rural areas or eat outside of major hotels and restaurants, where food hygiene might be less strict.

  • Rabies: Consider this vaccine if your activities will bring you into contact with animals, especially in rural or outdoor settings.

  • Tick-Borne Encephalitis: This is advised if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors in rural or forested areas.

This is not mandatory, however, travelers can consider taking vaccinations for your health.
